Cost-Effective Pilot Scale Production Of Bioethanol” Project Is Ongoing Between Bartin University And Pakistan Goverment College University Lahore (GCU)

Within the scope of Pak-Türk Project-based agreement of Higher Education Institution, our project “Cost Effective Pilot Scale Production of Bioethanol” between our university and Government College University Lahore (GCU) is continuing.

Attia HAMİD, who continues her Ph.D. studies in GCU, came to our country and our university for two months to participate in the experiments. As part of the project, Ph.D. student Attia HAMID, together with the Dean of Faculty of Science and head of the project  Prof. Dr. Ahmet KARADAĞ and other researchers involved in the project, produces biomass from pre-treated forest roses, hazelnut shells and hazelnut (cobs) from plant wastes of the Black Sea Region using various techniques in the research laboratories of Biotechnology Department. Pre-treated biomass to be obtained will be hydrolyzed by five different enzymes that will be recombinantly produced, and simple sugars produced by the enzymatic reactions will be fermented for ethanol production.

Furthermore, information about the synthesis of nanoparticles and synthesis of complexes showing anticancer activity using microwave synthesizer have been given. In this context, silver nanoparticles have been synthesized from the Spanish cherry (Mimusops elengi L.) fruit brought by the researcher from Pakistan and antibacterial and anticarcinogenic activity studies of these nanoparticles have been performed. In addition, different studies on complex synthesis of transition metals such as nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), and cadmium (Cd) using microwave synthesizers have been carried out.
